JUMPING ON THE VAN WAGON
Hell yes! This morning I jumped off a plane from NYC and landed in LA. After lugging the log out of the airport I was met by a fresh-faced Matt Cuddihy, who recently returned from El Salvadore. He’s sporting a 75 Chevy van and I’m to be on the road with him for the next couple of weeks. Uncle Rico, as he refers to it, has been Matt’s home on wheels for the last three months. We packed my stuff and rolled straight out of the city, on to the PCH and into the water at Malibu. The crowds over the past week have had their fill of surf and there’s a plenty of waves on offer. Joel Tudor, Dane Peterson, James Parry and Yuta Sezutsu are there to meet us. There wasn’t much car park chat. The perfect peelers were ridden within the first fives minutes of us being there. Ain’t no place like the Bu.
A couple of sessions later and we’re tired and sunburnt, packing up the van to head down to Huntington Beach. The US Open of Surfing is on and Joel’s Duct Tape Invitational contest will be held on Friday and Saturday. If you feel like watching the heats online, check the live webcast Friday at around 1:30PM California-time. YEW!
